Ubud, You’ve Got Me

Poetry

Poetry by Markus Hamence – Ubud, Bali, April 2025

Woke up to roosters and incense smoke,
Jungle breath thick like a secret joke.
This ain’t your usual wake-up call –
It’s Ubud, baby, and she’s got it all.

Long Black in one hand, journal in the other,
WiFi strong but soul goes further.
Rice paddies stretch like green infinity,
And suddenly, I’m part of the divinity.

Scooters hum like bees on heat,
Temples bloom on every street.
Statues smile with mossy grace –
You slow your scroll to feel this place.

Monkey Forest – wild and cheeky,
Spiritual but never freaky.
Sage smoke curls at every door,
You breathe deep, and then crave more.

Afternoon yoga, downward dog,
Sweat, surrender, inner monologue.
Your mat becomes a magic rug –
You fly without the tourist plug.

Sunset melts in a coconut shell,
Laughter, sambal, stories to tell.
Ubud, you’re not just place, you’re vibe –
A whisper, a beat, a jungle tribe.

And when I leave? (Because I must…)
I’ll carry you in Bali dust.
In heartbeats, hashtags, dreams that burn –
To Ubud, always, I’ll return.
